I've been crimping D-sub pins with the wrong tool for YEARS and only found out when a new guy at the hangar asked why my crimps looked 'sad'.

He pulled out his own tool, a genuine PA-09 I'd never seen before, and showed me the perfect crimp in about 15 seconds, which made my whole collection of slightly-crooked connectors look completely amateur.

Oof, that's brutal. So you were basically just crushing the pin with pliers or something? What tool were you even using before, like a generic crimper not made for D-subs? I gotta know the full scope of the DIY method that lasted for years.

My old boss taught me to use needle-nose pliers on those pins back in 2005. It's the same kind of "good enough" fix you see with duct tape on a car bumper.

Wow, are we really acting like a crimp job is life or death?
