Gotta stop trusting those cheap USB cable testers

Last Thursday I was chasing a no-comm issue on a CRJ-200 at KLAX. Used my cheap $12 tester from Amazon to check the USB charging ports in the cabin - said everything was fine. Turned out the shield ground was open on 3 of them after I finally broke out the megohmmeter. Anyone else find those little testers just give false confidence?

Cheap tools just make you think you're good enough until you're not.

Those cheap testers work fine for basic pass/fail checks, just don't expect lab-grade diagnostics.

Did you try a known good power bank next time to narrow it down faster?
