Calibrated my own pitot static bench, trust issues resolved
For 8 years I sent my test sets out every 6 months and never questioned the stickers. Last week I double checked one with a dead weight tester at a buddy's hangar in Tulsa and found 0.4 inHg error that should have failed. Has anyone else caught a calibration lab cutting corners like that?

The real question is whether the lab used a transfer standard that was drift-checked against a national reference or just a shop unit that sat on a shelf for years. I called out a local place once and they admitted their master gauge hadnt been certified since 2019. Theyd been trusting a hand written logbook instead of actual calibration dates. That 0.4 inHg could easily be a systematic offset that grows over time, not just a one off mistake. If you kept the old stickers, check those serial numbers against the labs scope of accreditation. Might find your bench was never even in their documented range.
