After seeing piles of tossed-out units, I'm convinced we should repair more avionics gear.

Lots of folks claim new gear is better for the earth, but throwing away good parts creates too much trash. I believe we should fix old stuff first.

Seriously? Is a few piles of old gear really making that big a dent compared to all the other stuff we throw out? Making new stuff has to hurt the planet way more.

My buddy worked at an electronics recycling spot for a summer. He said the scale of it was wild, like trucks full of just old phones and laptops every single day. It really showed how that "few piles" idea @blakef41 mentioned is actually a huge, constant river of waste. Seeing it all stacked up made him way more careful about buying new gadgets now.

Honestly, how can a few piles not matter when it's happening everywhere all the time? @ivan_perez has the right idea about seeing that constant river of waste. Tbh, all those separate piles from every shop and airport add up to a mountain. New gear might be a bit more efficient, but making it still uses tons of new metal and plastic. Fixing the old stuff first just seems like basic common sense to cut down on both trash and new production.
