Accidentally found a better way to label wires this morning
Was trying to fix a bundle of corroded connectors on a 737 in Memphis and my label maker ran out of tape. Used a fine tip paint marker on a scrap of heat shrink tubing instead and it held up way better than those sticky flags I usually buy. Anyone else ditch the plastic labels for something simpler?

That paint marker trick work on the actual heat shrink or did you write on a separate piece and then shrink it down over the wire? I always worry the marker will bleed or fade if the heat gun gets too close. How long have you had those labels in service without them rubbing off or getting chewed up by whatever grease or solvents get kicked around in that engine bay?

Oh I heard the trick is to let the ink dry fully before hitting it with heat, no problems so far!

Heat shrink and a paint marker is all I use now, way tougher than those plastic slip-ons.
