Can we talk about the $50 Walmart tent I bought to sleep in my own car during a Denver transport pickup
So I had a car getting shipped from Denver to Phoenix and the driver kept pushing the pickup window later and later, until it was gonna be 11pm at a lot off I-70. Instead of driving 90 minutes home and back, I grabbed a $50 tent from a Walmart on Colfax and pitched it right in the lot next to my car. The driver rolled in at 1am, loaded the car in about 20 minutes while I stood there in my pajamas holding a flashlight, and I was asleep by 2. Way cheaper than a hotel and honestly nobody bothered me all night. Has anyone else just camped at the pickup lot instead of paying for a room?
The part nobody talks about is how the lot itself matters way more than the tent. A truck stop or a 24 hour Walmart lot has people coming and going all night, so you blend in, but a random empty lot off I-70 with nothing around is a different story. I've done the car camp thing at dealerships waiting on title stuff and the trick was always picking a spot with lights and a camera or two, plus letting the night guy know I was there so I wasn't the mystery person in his lot at 3am. Fifty bucks beats a hotel, but a little scouting first beats a knock on the window at 2am.
