Watched a guy fix a rattling exhaust with a crushed soda can in Topeka
I was killing time at a gas station off I-70 waiting on a tow for a buddy's truck last month. This older fella rolls in with a Subaru that sounds like a box of marbles. He pops the hood, then crawls under, and I see he's got a Mountain Dew can he just crushed flat. He wedges it between the heat shield and the exhaust pipe with a screwdriver, taps it with a hammer, and the rattle just stops. I stood there with my coffee, jaw on the floor. He told me that shield had been loose for 14 years and he didn't feel like buying new hardware. I've used hose clamps and zip ties plenty, but never a beverage container. Has anyone else done a temporary patch that somehow held up longer than actual parts?
