Rant: a rounded brake bleeder screw on a 2008 Silverado ate 6 hours of my Saturday
Heads up for anyone doing brakes on an older Silverado with the 5.3, those bleeder screws love to seize up solid if nobody touched them in 10 years. I soaked it in PB Blaster overnight, hit it with a 6 point socket, and it just rounded the hex flat, so I had to pull the whole caliper off, drill the screw out, and retap the hole. What should have been a 45 minute pad slap turned into 6 hours in my garage in Lansing, and I missed my kid's soccer game over it. Heat helps but you gotta be careful not to cook the seals if you go too hot with a torch. I've started cracking bleeders loose on every used car I touch now, just one quarter turn so they don't weld themselves shut. Anybody got a trick for stubborn bleeders that doesn't end with a drill and a tap set?
