Old timer at the shop showed me why you never use impact guns on oil drain plugs

Every one of my cars has had the drain plug zipped on with an impact gun for the last 12 years and I've never had a single problem. The trick is just using a torque stick or setting the gun to the lowest clutch setting so it stops before you overdo it. Guys who strip pans or round off plugs are usually cranking it on max power with a cheap gun that has no feel. I've seen way more damage from people using a rachet and just reefing on it by hand because they think they're being careful. A little common sense with the tool matters way more than the tool itself.

Wait, you torque 'em down with an impact gun on plastic pans too?

Zipped on with an impact gun for the last 12 years"? Wait, you’re serious? Are we talking the same drain plug that holds all your oil in?
