I thought those cheap code readers were junk until my buddy's $40 one found a bad cam sensor my fancy scanner missed.

He brought it over for a 2007 Silverado with a rough idle, and my $800 unit just showed a generic misfire code. His little box pulled a specific P0340 camshaft position sensor fault. Swapped the sensor, truck ran smooth. Now I keep one in my box as a backup. Anyone else find a simple tool that saved your butt?

Ever wonder if the cheap ones just try harder to prove themselves?

Sometimes it's just a good deal. Price doesn't always mean better.

HOLD UP. "Sometimes it's just a good deal"? That's like saying sometimes a burger from the gas station is just as good as a steakhouse. I've seen too many "good deals" turn into absolute nightmares a week later. Cheap stuff usually cuts corners somewhere, and you don't find out until it's too late. Maybe it's fine for a throwaway item, but if I'm spending my hard-earned cash, I want something that's not gonna break or disappoint me.
