Hit 250,000 miles on my old F-150 yesterday without ever cracking the engine open
Everyone told me that 3-valve Triton was a guaranteed timing chain disaster waiting to happen past 150k, but I just kept doing oil changes every 5,000 miles with the cheap stuff and it still runs smooth - anyone else had a 5.4 that refused to die?

That 5.4 is a beast when you ignore the internet's crying about it.

The 5.4 from 2012 in that old F-150 is what people are talking about right? I always see people online acting like it's some kind of ticking time bomb but I know three guys who have them over 250k miles and they just change the oil. One of them tows a boat every weekend in the summer and has never had a single engine issue. I bet most of the crying is from people who never even owned one or just heard someone else repeat a story.

Bought a 2011 F-150 with the 5.4 back in 2015 with 80k miles on it. Just rolled past 210k last week and it still starts up first crank every single morning... I haul scrap metal for side cash and that truck has seen loads that made my buddy's Dodge squat like a dog. Never done anything but oil changes and one set of plugs at 150k. The internet noise is just people repeating what their cousin's mechanic said once.
