Why does nobody tell you to check your gun tip before blaming your technique
I spent 3 months fighting orange peel on every clear coat job at our shop in Bakersfield, and I kept messing with my speed and distance like an idiot. Then a guy named Ray who has been spraying for 22 years grabbed my gun and showed me the tip was worn out, the pattern was spraying uneven the whole time. Swapped a $15 tip and the peel just went away on the first panel. How often do you guys actually check your tip wear instead of chasing settings?
Why is the tip always the last thing we check? I did the exact same thing last year, kept messing with my air pressure and fan settings for weeks. My boss finally looked at my pattern and told me the tip was shot, the spray was coming out lopsided the whole time. A new tip cost me like 12 bucks and fixed everything in one afternoon. Now I check mine every couple of weeks and write the date on the tip with a marker so I actually know how old it is. How many panels do you guys run before you swap one out?
