Tried a cheap 3M knockoff for seam sealer and it was a total mess
I used a generic brand from the local parts store on a Honda Civic quarter panel repair last month. It didn't stick right and started cracking after just two days. Went back to the real 3M 08308 sealer and it laid down smooth and held up perfect. Anyone have a good off-brand that actually works, or is it just worth paying for the name brand every time?

My buddy used that exact same generic tube from O'Reilly on his Tacoma bed seam and it's been solid for over a year. Sometimes you just get a bad batch or the surface wasn't prepped right. The 3M stuff can fail too if the metal isn't perfectly clean. I've saved a ton of money over the years using store brand sealers on small jobs and most of them work just fine.

Totally get what @shane_mason62 is saying about prep being key. I mean, I once tried sealing a window with the fancy stuff and it peeled right off because I definitely didn't clean it well enough. My own fault, but it makes you wonder how much is the product versus the person applying it, you know?
