TIL my old way of fixing a door ding on my personal truck was making it worse
I had a small dent on my driver's side door from a shopping cart in the lot at the Walmart in Springfield. I tried to use a cheap suction cup puller from a parts store, but it just stretched the metal and made a bigger high spot. I had to block sand the whole panel down and repaint it, which took me three hours last Saturday. Has anyone else had a simple repair turn into a bigger job because of a bad tool choice?

Those cheap pullers are a total trap... ruined my fender once.

Wow, three hours is actually pretty good for a proper fix! That suction cup junk ruins the metal, so sanding and repainting was the only real choice left. A lot of people would just leave it looking worse, but fixing it right shows you care about your truck.

Three hours for a door ding seems like overkill. Most people would just live with a small dent or try a better tool. That suction cup method is known for being junk, but repainting the whole panel is a huge reaction.
