That moment I found out clear coat thickness matters way more than I thought
I was reading a forum thread from a PPG tech last week and they said anything under 2 mils on a respray and you're basically wasting your time. Has anyone else tested their clear with a gauge and found out their usual method was too thin?

Wait, hold up. So you're telling me my whole "spray until it looks wet" method might be leaving me way under the recommended thickness? That honestly blows my mind, I never even thought to check.

Look, @the_margaret, I get why it sounds like a big deal, but I've been doing the "spray until it looks wet" thing for years and my projects hold up fine. Unless you're building something that needs to survive a hurricane or get inspected by a professional, it probably doesn't matter that much. People online love to act like everything has to be perfect down to the millimeter, but real world results don't always match the math on the label. I'd rather spend that extra time actually painting than measuring stuff with a gauge nobody even owns.
