Saw a guy at the body shop say you should always use OEM parts for collision work.
I heard this older guy at Thompson Auto Body last Tuesday telling a customer that aftermarket parts are junk and never hold up. But I've been using good aftermarket fenders and bumpers for 4 years now on my delivery van and they've saved me hundreds, never had a fitment issue. What's everyone's actual experience with aftermarket parts holding up long term?
Oh come on, is it really that big of a deal? I've slapped on plenty of aftermarket parts over the years and they've been just fine for normal driving. Unless you're building a show car, you're probably overthinking this whole thing.
Pat, you make a fair point for basic driving around town. But I've seen too many folks slap on cheap suspension parts and end up with a car that rides rough and wears out tires fast. The real issue comes when you cheap out on critical stuff like brake pads or wheel bearings where failure means a serious accident. A little more research and spending a few extra dollars up front can save a lot of headaches down the road.
