Old timer told me to always drill a tiny hole at the end of a crack before welding a quarter panel
I thought he was full of it until I welded up a 97 F-150 in Lansing back in 05 and the crack ran another 3 inches past my patch. Does anyone else still do this or is everyone just using the newer filler methods now?

That old timer knew what he was talking about, I learned that lesson the hard way too - now my welds look like Swiss cheese from all the stress relief holes I drill!

Wait @lindab49, didn't you use to swear by just drilling a couple big holes? I used to think the same way but seeing your results totally changed my mind.
