Hit 1000 cars this year and it caught me off guard

I was going through my job logs last week and realized I've painted and repaired 1000 cars so far this year. That number surprised me because I don't feel like I've been working that fast. Most of them were small jobs like bumper scuffs and door dings, but still adds up quick. Has anyone else kept track of how many cars they do in a year?

My buddy Mike did collision work at a shop in Denver and he kept a tally on his garage wall for fun. He hit 800 one year and said it felt like he was just breathing and barely moving. But then he got into a fender bender himself and that put him out for two weeks. After he came back he said his count dropped to like 600 because he started taking his time more. You probably don't realize how many you actually do until you write it down.

Eight hundred is wild to think about. @margaret304 your buddy's story is a perfect example of how we just get numb to stuff over time. I've noticed it outside of cars too like with my own phone notifications. I get so many emails and messages in a day that I stopped actually reading them and just swipe them away. Then one day I missed a really important one from my landlord about a maintenance thing and it cost me money. After that I started slowing down and now I actually look at each one. It's the same thing with driving or anything we do over and over. You get so good at it that you don't realize you're on autopilot until something snaps you out of it.

Blew my mind when you said 800. That's over two a day if you're working a standard year, and that's assuming you never take a day off. I get numb to things too but I never thought about it in numbers like that. It's scary how easy it is to just go through the motions without really being there. The phone notification thing hit close to home, I've done the exact same thing and missed stuff.
