The Messier marathon pic that changed my mind on star trails

Used to think star trail photos were lazy, just long exposures with no effort. Last week I tried a 2 hour stack during the Geminids and the color mixing of the trails blew me away, I get it now. Anyone else have a style they hated until they actually tried it?

Hold the phone, I'm still on the old side here. Star trails are just a bunch of dots smeared together, and the "color mixing" is mostly luck from light pollution, not real skill. Stacking two hours of frames is just setting a timer and walking away, it's not like you're actually composing a shot. Try chasing a single sharp meteor next time and tell me that doesn't take more brains than a blurry circle.
