That one comment about my astro stacking actually made me drop DSS for Siril
Someone on here pointed out my stacked Andromeda photo had obvious walking noise patterns and suggested I try Siril instead, and after comparing the same data set the difference in star shapes was honestly night and day has anyone else switched stacking software because of a random forum critique?

Took a random internet stranger's advice and it actually worked out for once, wild.

Oh man, I had almost the exact same thing happen to me with my Pleiades data. I was getting these weird oblong stars in DSS and someone on a forum told me to check out the registration settings in Siril. I argued with them at first, but @alexw75 is right about the registration being way better. After I switched, the star shapes came out clean and round with no extra effort on my part. It was honestly a humbling moment because I had been using DSS for years thinking it was fine, but one solid tip changed my whole workflow overnight.

DSS is decent for getting started but it really falls apart when you push the data hard. Siril handles the registration way better, especially if you're using a DSLR with weird colour artifacts. The green channel noise removal in Siril is also miles ahead, DSS just smears it. Good call switching.
