Heard someone say star tracking rigs are overrated for Milky Way shots

Was at a local astronomy club meeting in Portland last Tuesday and one of the old timers claimed you don't need a tracker for good Milky Way photos if you stack enough frames. I've been saving up for a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer for 6 months now. Anyone here use stacking instead of tracking and get decent results?

Stacking works fine but @fisher.adam youre missing out on quality.

Read a Cloudy Nights thread where someone stacked 200 untracked shots and it actually looked pretty good.

That's the beauty of stacking though, @fisher.adam - sheer quantity can paper over a lot of gear limitations.
