Drove 40 minutes outside Amarillo for the meteor shower and my lens cap ruined everything
Woke up at 3am on a Tuesday to catch the Perseids from a dark spot off Highway 287, about 40 minutes north of Amarillo, and I was pretty proud of myself for finding a spot with zero light pollution. Set up my tripod, framed what I thought was a perfect shot of the eastern sky, and shot 60 frames over an hour while I sat in my lawn chair feeling like a real astrophotographer. Got home, loaded the card, and every single picture was solid black because I never took the lens cap off. I laughed for about two minutes straight, then ordered pizza at 6am, and now I check the cap three times before every session.
