Bought a $200 star tracking mount and forgot the tripod adapter

Spent 45 minutes setting up my telescope mount last night only to realize I left the brass adapter for the tripod at home. Had to just sit there and look at the Orion Nebula with my naked eyes instead. Anybody else ever drive out to a dark sky site and realize you forgot one tiny piece?

Balancing with rocks? Come on. The problem isn't that you couldn't MacGyver it, it's that you drove all that way without double checking your bag. I've done the same thing with a lost finder scope screw once. Spent an hour hunting for a hex key in the dark like a moron. Lesson is, make a checklist and tape it to your case. Rocks won't fix a missing adapter.

Balancing rocks works in a pinch but you're right, checklists save the real headaches.

Did you try balancing the mount with random rocks or something?
