Appreciation post for that cheap tripod I almost didn't buy
Ngl, I was about to drop $300 on a carbon fiber tripod for astro photos, but I tried a $40 aluminum one from a yard sale in Austin instead. It wobbled on the first few shots but I figured out you can hang your camera bag under the center hook to steady it. The trick works way better than I thought for long exposure shots of the Milky Way. Has anyone else found a random cheap fix that saved you money on gear?

Bought a super cheap remote shutter release on Amazon for like $8 and it literally broke after two uses. But I figured out I could tape the little trigger thing down with a rubber band and just use the timer instead. Saved me from buying the expensive wireless one.

Twenty years ago I bought a $10 remote release for my old Canon film camera and the cord snapped inside the little screw thing within a week. Ended up taking the shell off, stripping the wire, and just touching the two ends together to fire the shutter (like a caveman). It looked ridiculous but I used it for like three more years until the camera finally died. Funny how a cheap fix sometimes works better than the real thing.

$10 for a remote release twenty years ago... that was probably the cheapest option even back then. I mean, you got three more years out of a caveman setup so I guess it worked out in the end. But honestly, how serious is a shutter release really gonna be?
