Why does nobody talk about how sketchy that bridge on Route 9 near Woodstock is getting?
I drove over it yesterday and saw a 3 inch crack in the pavement that runs the whole width, and I swear the railing wobbled when a truck passed, has anyone else noticed this or am I overthinking it?

Drove that bridge yesterday afternoon and didn't notice anything off. The pavement has those expansion joints that look like cracks but are supposed to be there. Railings are old but they've been that way for years and still pass inspection. 3 inches sounds like a lot but pavement moves with weather changes. Might want to check your tire pressure though, low tires make every bump feel worse than it is.

The expansion joints on the old steel bridge on Route 9 near the river are definitely cut straight, I've walked that bridge a hundred times fishing below it. A jagged 3 inch gap running full width sounds like the asphalt overlay is delaminating from the concrete deck underneath, which happens when water gets between the layers and freezes. I'd call the county road commission direct, not the town, since bridges are usually county maintained around here. Did you happen to feel the bump from the front or the rear tires first?

Wait, aren't expansion joints usually cut straight and even though, not jagged like a crack would be? I've seen my share of pavement issues around here and a 3 inch wide gap running the full width sounds more like the road surface is actually separating, not just a normal weather joint. Might be worth snapping a pic and sending it to the town highway department just to be safe.
