Stopped winging my airbnb bookings after that disaster in Portland
I used to just look at photos and book same day. Last summer I got a place that looked fine in pics but had mold in the bathroom and a broken AC. Now I always check reviews for the last 3 months and message the host with a specific question first before I confirm. Anyone else been burned by trusting listing photos?

Oh boy... reviews are definitely the real deal though.

Yeah, "the real deal" for sure. So when you say reviews are the real deal, do you mostly trust the five-star ones or do you read the bad ones first to see what could go wrong? Because I've booked places where the good reviews sounded fake and the bad ones were spot-on about things like thin walls or bad parking. What's your filter for spotting a legit review versus some fluff job?

Ha, I once booked a cabin with a hot tub that turned out to be a kiddie pool in the backyard.
