Pro tip: Most people are using way too much laundry detergent

I noticed my clothes felt kinda slimy even after a wash, and I kept getting white streaks on dark shirts. Turns out, I was throwing in like 3 times the recommended amount because I thought more soap meant cleaner clothes. My machine even started smelling musty after 6 months of this. Read the bottle markings once and measured it exactly - half of what I used to pour works better with zero buildup. Anyone else figure this out the hard way or am I the only one who over-poured for years?

Ha! I was doing the same thing until my washer started smelling like a swamp. Guess we both learned the hard way that more soap doesn't mean cleaner clothes.

And did you actually run a clean cycle after you figured it out, or did you just let it dry out and hope for the best? I spent two weekends trying to scrub that mildew smell out of my machine. Had to run three hot cycles with vinegar before it stopped smelling like a dead animal in a wet sock. That was the moment I realized I'd been wasting about half the detergent I was using for years.
