My go-to mechanic shop from 10 years ago shut down without warning last Tuesday, and I spent 3 hours trying to find a new one that didn't quote me $600 for a simple brake pad swap.

I pulled up to the old place on my lunch break and saw a 'for lease' sign in the window, no forwarding address or anything, so now I'm stuck trusting online reviews to pick a stranger to work on my truck's brakes - has anyone else dealt with their favorite shop just vanishing like that?

Did you try calling it yourself to see who picks up? Or are you just going off what the website says?
