Just changed my mind about tap water after seeing a report from my local utility
I always thought tap water was basically the same everywhere and that bottled water was just a scam. But last week I got a water quality report from our city utility in Springfield and it showed something that surprised me. The levels of chlorine byproducts were higher than I expected, right near the EPA limit. Then I looked up a study from the Natural Resources Defense Council that said many older pipes in towns like ours leach lead and copper into the water. I checked our house and found the pipes are from the 1970s. Now I finally get why some people use filters. Has anyone else looked at their local water report and been shocked by what's in there?

Used to think people were overreacting about tap water too. We've got the same old pipes from the 70s and our report showed lead levels that were higher than I'd like. I ended up getting a simple countertop filter and it's made a big difference in taste at least. Since then I've started actually checking online for our yearly report instead of just throwing it in the trash.

Wait, your water report showed higher lead levels and you just found out recently? That's the kind of thing that makes my stomach drop. I'd be boiling water for everything until that filter showed up. Your mileage may vary, but that's one of those details that really hits home once you know what's actually coming out of the tap.
