I thought 'ask me anything' forums were just for silly questions, but one changed my mind

Honestly, I used to think these places were just for jokes or asking celebrities what they eat for breakfast. Then, about two years ago, I saw a thread where someone asked a retired engineer how to fix a specific pipe leak in an old house. He gave a step-by-step answer with pictures, and it solved a problem I'd been having for months. It wasn't just a quick tip, it was a full guide that saved me calling a pro. That one thread showed me these forums can have real, expert knowledge if you ask the right thing. Has anyone else had a simple question answered here that actually helped with a big problem?

That plumber story is why I trust forums over Google now.

The three step pipe fix that engineer shared actually changed how I look at my whole house now. @daniel593 you're lucky that sink fix worked out, mine took two tries before I stopped flooding the cabinet. I swear those retired tradespeople on here are like the secret bosses of home repair, they just drop knowledge bombs for free. What a weird world where a random forum saves you hundreds of dollars while you're in your pajamas.
