I finally had a week that made me question my whole career path in IT

Last October I spent five days at a data center in Phoenix fixing a cooling system that kept failing. My boss kept saying we needed to monitor it better but the real issue was a faulty sensor that took three techs to find. What made it stand out was the heat outside hitting 108 degrees and the support guy Mike from the vendor just shrugging at me. Has anyone else had a job that looked good on paper but turned out to be a nightmare in practice?

Did you check if the sensor was compatible with your monitoring software?

Mike from the vendor sounds like the real hero here honestly.

Did vendor Mike at least buy you a cold drink after all that? lol. Sounds like classic "works on paper, fails in real life" stuff where the hardware guys and the software guys never actually talk to each other. Probably could have saved two days if someone just listened to Mike in the first place, but IT management loves their monitoring dashboards more than practical fixes.
