I always thought 'ask anything' meant any kind of question was fine

For years, I'd post random life questions here, like what to do about a noisy neighbor. Then I saw a mod post last week explaining the community is for questions about the 'ask anything' format itself, like how to phrase tricky questions or where to post certain topics. The before and after difference was clear: my old posts got ignored, but my new one asking how to ask for career advice got real answers in under an hour. Has anyone else had to shift their idea of what this place is for?

Ever feel like @zara_kelly27's buddy, just totally off track?

Been there. I lurked in a gardening group for months before realizing it was for a specific type of native plant, not general tips. Always check the group's description and pinned posts first, saves so much time.

My buddy had the exact same thing happen on a different forum. He kept asking for movie recommendations on a page that was actually for talking about film theory. Felt pretty silly when he finally read the rules, right? It's wild how a community's real purpose can be a total secret until you stumble on that one post. Makes you wonder how many other spots we've all been using wrong for years.
