Watched a museum guard in Athens move a 2,400 year old vase with his bare hands
Last spring I was at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens and saw a guard pick up an ancient Greek amphora from a display base with no gloves on. He just grabbed it by the handles and shifted it over about six inches so a tour group could see the plaque better. I stood there for a minute waiting for an alarm or something to go off and nothing happened. I asked a staff member in my bad Greek if that was normal and she just shrugged and said the pieces get moved around all the time. Now I look at every display case in a whole different way. Has anyone else seen something like this at a museum overseas, or was this just a weird day?
