Warning: I mislabeled one trench at a dig near Tucson and it cost me 4 extra days
Back when I first started out, I was helping map a site outside Tucson and I mixed up two trench markers by about 3 feet. The whole grid got thrown off. It took me 4 days to figure out where the error started, because I kept checking the wrong notes first. My field director, a guy named Ray who had been digging since the 80s, just laughed and handed me a sharpie. These days everything is on a tablet with GPS pins, so a mistake like that gets caught in about 10 minutes. Part of me misses the paper maps though, mistakes and all. Anyway, has anyone else had a labeling screw up that snowballed on them?
