That time I grabbed a "genuine" Assyrian cylinder seal off eBay without checking provenance
I was out in New Mexico cataloging finds for a small museum and brought in this seal I bought for $150. Turned out it was a modern replica made in Pakistan and I had to write it off as a loss.

I used to think you could trust anything sold as "museum grade" on eBay if the seller had good feedback. But this story changed my mind after I bought a supposedly authentic Roman coin that turned out to be a modern cast from China. Now I only buy from known dealers or auction houses with clear provenance records.
