Spent a week cleaning a single Roman coin from a dig in York
When I pulled it from the dirt last month it was just a green lump, but after careful work with distilled water and a soft brush, you can now see the emperor's face. It's a small thing, but seeing that detail appear after 2,000 years is just WILD. Has anyone else had a find that looked like nothing at first but turned out amazing?

What emperor was on that York coin you cleaned up?

Honestly, does it even matter which emperor it was? It's a cool find, but people get so hung up on the exact ruler. Like, it's a piece of metal from a guy who's been dead for 1,800 years. The neat part is that it survived, not whether it was Hadrian or Constantine. Why do we need to turn every little thing into a history test?

Think the emperor matters more to folks who enjoy the story behind the metal.
