My worst dig day ever was in that New Mexico site last May
I was out near Chaco Canyon on a volunteer dig and we hit a spot that looked super promising. Turned out the whole afternoon was just a massive rodent nest and we found nothing but old seeds and bones from gophers. By the time we realized it, we had already mapped and documented a 4x4 foot grid for nothing. Has anyone else ever wasted a whole day on a false lead like that?

Oh man, I spent a whole day in Arizona digging up what turned out to be an old trash pit from the 1950s, total bummer.

At least you got a free history lesson (and probably some rusty cans). My last big dig turned out to be someone's abandoned septic tank, so I feel your pain.
