Found a roman coin in my backyard, took me 4 months to realize it was a modern replica
I found this thing back in April while digging up an old flower bed at my place near Lincoln. Had this crusty green patina and everything, looked super legit. I was so hyped I took it to the local museum, but the curator took one look and pointed out the lettering was slightly off - modern font instead of the proper ancient style. I felt like such a fool. Has anyone else found something that looked ancient but turned out to be a fake?

Did you keep it anyway? Fake or not, it's still a cool little trinket.

I read somewhere that even the "fakes" from that era are getting harder to find because people started throwing them out... crazy to think about. I heard a collector on a podcast say the older reproductions actually have their own charm, like they tell a story about what people wanted back then. Plus, if it's been sitting on your shelf for years and you still look at it, that means something right? So yeah, I'd probably keep it even if it wasn't the real deal.
