Wasted $400 on a garbage chipper attachment for my skid steer

I bought a cheap brand side-discharge chipper from a place in Ohio back in March thinking I was saving money over a major brand. After 3 days of light use the flywheel sheared its bolts and the whole thing fell apart. Has anyone else had bad luck with those bolt-on chipper attachments?

Bought a similar cheap chipper attachment a couple years back and had the same thing happen. Ended up replacing the flywheel bolts with grade 8 hardware and used red Loctite to hold them in place. Also shimmed the housing a bit to get better clearance on the blades. Ran it for about 20 hours after that with no issues before I traded up to a bigger machine. Those cheap ones just need a little tweaking straight out of the box.

Wait, you actually got 20 hours out of it after those fixes? I only got about 5 before the whole thing grenaded on me, @sullivan.finley. Did you have to re-balance the flywheel too or just swap the hardware?
