TIL a simple soil test in Denver saved a client's pin oak
We were about to treat for a fungus, but a $40 kit from the local co-op showed the soil pH was way off, like 8.2. We added sulfur and iron instead, and the tree bounced back in two months. Anyone else had a soil test change the whole plan?

Wow, @alexw75, how much sulfur did you need?

Yeah, that "soil pH was way off" thing hits home. I had a red maple looking awful and was ready to spray for everything, but a test showed the same crazy high pH like alexw75 said. Totally switched it up, used some acidifying fertilizer and it made all the difference. Saved me from wasting a ton of money on the wrong fix. It's wild how often we guess instead of just checking the dirt first.
