The 3 a.m. phone call about a cracked maple in Boise

Got woken up last Tuesday by a homeowner frantic about a 60-foot maple that split right down the middle after a wind gust. I walked the site and realized the cable from 15 years ago was anchored to a rotting stub, which is why it gave up. Has anyone else found old hardware holding on to dead wood like that? I'm curious how often you all actually re-inspect those setups.
