Still think rope splicing is faster than mechanical terminations for big removals?

Tried both on a 60 foot white oak last month and the mechanical terminator saved me almost 20 minutes per rigging point. Has anyone else switched over and noticed a big difference in their daily pace?

Did you ever try those old wire rope clamps they used to sell at hardware stores? I remember using them once on a job back in the 90s and it took me forever to get them tight enough. The new mechanical ones sound a lot better if you saved that much time.

Yeah those old clamps were a real workout, I remember cranking on one for what felt like an hour and it still slipped. The new mechanical ones basically do the same job with half the effort, so I'm not exactly missing the vintage experience. My knuckles are definitely happier with the upgrade.

Craig mentioning knuckles reminded me of the time I tried using vice grips as a makeshift clamp on a limb and ended up launching the whole thing into my truck bed. Not my finest moment but it definitely made me appreciate the new stuff.
