Split a giant maple with a rope trick that looked insane

Had to drop a 30 inch trunk in a tight yard last week and my winch cable snapped. Tried the old strap and come-along method, took 2 hours of fiddling. Finally used a 12 foot sling wrapped twice around the trunk with a porta-wrap, pulled it over at a weird angle and it landed exactly where I wanted. Anyone else use a porta-wrap as a poor man's pull device when the winch gives out?

That porta-wrap trick sounds sketchy but I love it. Reminds me of the time I tried to pull a stump with my buddy's F150 and the tow strap snapped, whipped back and put a dent in his tailgate the size of a dinner plate. He still brings it up every time we cut wood together. Honestly I think the rope and physics stuff is half the fun, even when it goes sideways. Did you at least get a good story out of the snapped winch cable before the sling save?
