I used to skip cleaning saw dust off my climbing harness

Always figured it was harmless, but after reading a post from a guy who wrecked his ascender from grit buildup, I started wiping mine down after every climb. A quick brush takes 2 minutes and my gear's smoother now. Anyone else found hidden damage from neglecting harness care?

Started wiping mine down after reading the same kind of post honestly. Used to just brush off the big chunks of sawdust and call it good, figured a little grit couldn't hurt anything. Then I started noticing tiny scratches inside my ascender and my chest ascender felt gritty when I used it. Now I keep a small brush in my gear bag and give everything a quick once-over before racking it up. Its wild how much smoother the cam action is now, and I bet it saves wear on the teeth over time.

Man, same here, the difference in smoothness is honestly night and day once you start doing it.

Read something about grit wearing down the anodizing on aluminum gear.
