Bought a cheap climbing rope from a discount site and it snapped on the first big job

I was doing a big removal on a maple in Springfield and the rope broke about 20 feet up. I fell into a big pile of brush, which hurt a lot and wrecked my gear. The rope cost me $80, but the doctor visit and new helmet set me back over $500. What brands do you guys trust for climbing gear that won't kill your wallet?

My buddy's cheap rope snapped last year, and he's still paying those hospital bills.

Jesser79's buddy is a perfect example of why that $80 rope costs way more.

Paige's right, that eighty bucks turns into a hospital bill real fast. It's not just about the rope, it's about every piece of gear you trust with your weight. A cheap carabiner or harness can fail just as easy. Saving a few hundred on gear isn't worth the risk of a life changing injury. What other gear do you double check before a climb?
