Appreciation post: The Fiskars pole pruner that saved my left shoulder
After fighting with a cheap telescoping pruner for 2 years on a regular route in Portland, I finally dropped $110 on a Fiskars extendable pole pruner with the gear drive. I figured it was just marketing hype, you know? But after one afternoon hitting some tall maples that usually wreck my arms, I barely felt it. The gear ratio thing actually multiplies your pull force, so I'm not straining like crazy. I learned that spending real money on the right tool beats buying cheap ones twice. Anyone else have a specific tool that totally changed your cutting game?

Oh man, I had the exact same thing happen with a Fiskars bypass lopper last fall. I was out on some trails cutting back blackberry vines and my cheapo loppers from the hardware store just turned into a hand workout. I almost gave up on the whole job. But I picked up a Fiskars one with the geared compound action and it cut through those thick canes like butter. I'm not exaggerating, I did a whole afternoon of pruning that would have killed my hands before and I was actually fine. It's one of those purchases where you kick yourself for not doing it sooner.
