A landscaper's offhand comment made me rethink my climb cuts

Yesterday I was on a removals job with a landscaper who wasn't even on the crew. He watched me make a boring cut, then said 'you're pulling the saw down like you're scared of the bark.' I laughed it off, but he was right. I'd been doing that same motion for 12 years and never noticed the extra tear-out on the hinge. Changed my grip and did the next cut smoother, took maybe half the effort. Has anyone else gotten a tip from a non-climber that stuck with you more than any seminar?
