Took me 8 years to realize I was stacking my emergency water barrels wrong

I always put them directly on the concrete floor of my basement until a friend pointed out the temperature difference causes the plastic to degrade way faster. Has anyone else had their preps fail because of a stupid storage mistake like that?

Yeah "dedication to doing it wrong" pretty much sums up half my prepping journey honestly. Tbh I spent a whole year storing MREs in my hot garage before I realized they were basically cooking themselves into expired mush. Ngl I think we all learn these lessons the hard way, it's just nice to know I'm not the only one with a basement full of slowly degrading plastic.
