That prepper guy at the gun show swore by storing wheat berries over rice. Told me rice goes bad too fast.
Five years later my sealed buckets of rice are fine but his wheat berries got weevils through the mylar. Anyone else find rice lasts way longer than people claim?

Skip freezing first" is the real answer right there. People skip steps then blame the rice.

Prepping types tend to get dramatic about the smallest details. I've had rice in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers for close to a decade now and it's still fine. The real issue with both is moisture and proper sealing. Weevils come from eggs already in the grains, not from bad storage. People who blame the food type usually skipped freezing the grain first to kill those eggs. Rice might be a bit more forgiving if your seal isn't perfect, but both will last if you do it right.
