Stockpiled MREs from 2015 vs fresh ones this month...

I cracked open a 2015 case of MREs yesterday and the main course had turned into this weird paste, but the 2025 ones were totally fine - has anyone else noticed a big drop in shelf life with the newer packaging they started using around 2018?

Yeah I've noticed the same thing. The newer pouches feel thinner and more plasticky to me. I cracked open a 2017 one last year and it was still solid but a 2020 one already had that weird separated sauce thing going on. Honestly my 2015 stockpile is basically a science experiment at this point. I'm half expecting to open one and find a new species of mold that's evolved to communicate with me. At this rate I'll be eating all the 2025 ones first and saving the old ones for when I want a real challenge.

Man that's rough finding a case of MREs turned to paste like that. Real bummer when you stash stuff away thinking it'll be good for years and it just doesn't hold up. Solidarity on the disappointment there.
